:: updated!!! | washington dc portrait photographer ::

Since Architectdad is home from work this week, I was able to escape from the circus and update the B+N website and blog in peace and quiet. I hope you and yours had a wonderfully wonderful holiday!

This is my children overdosing on holiday cookies:

:: happy h-O-lidays | washington dc holiday photographer ::

Between various holiday family photo sessions, O's 5th birthday party and the holidays, I am running on fumes! To top it off, I had the pleasure of giving my first photography-related tutorial online to a group of terrific and talented ladies! It has been a whirlwind of a year and I hope my *dumb* luck continues and allows me to work with more wonderful people.

I took this shot on Black Friday at the U.S. Botanic Garden Conservatory. The microcosm inside this tiny ornament is both amazing and humbling. Happy h-O-lidays!!! Now back to the bat cave for some more editing...

:: christmas in middleburg | washington dc family photographer ::

We had a beautiful and fun day in Middleburg at the annual "Christmas in Middleburg" festivities. Architectdad and I have been going to this event for over 10 years and it is wonderful to be able to share this tradition with our little ones and friends! Out of various planned activities, the Middleburg Hunt Review (parade) was by far our favorite. Horses and hounds, O & the twins were in heaven!

Happy birthday to another Princess L! I hope your 5th royal birthday was everything you imagined :-)

:: bad day | washington dc children's photographer ::

My poor littlest one had a bad day today -- early wake-up call from her twin brother, super abbreviated nap and broccoli (gasp!) for dinner...accompanied by a heaping helping of wHiNiNg, ScReAmInG and MeLtDoWnS somewhere in between. The poor thing was toast by 6:00 PM. Here's hoping for the return of my princess tomorrow:

:: a girl and her horse | washington dc children's photographer ::

I love the holiday season -- it reminds me how much I love and appreciate my family. During the rest of the year, everyone rushes around and barely has time to see one another, never mind spending quality time together. Whether it's catching up in person, or chatting over Skype or Facetime, I hope you and yours spent a lovely long weekend together!

O just recently started horseback riding lessons. We've tried ballet and soccer on and off, but this is the ONLY class in which she is truly interested. She is so happy to be there that she giggles non-stop. At the same time, she takes it very seriously -- this healthy respect is obviously important because she is working around very LARGE, and potentially very fast animals. I am so touched, every time, by her focus and earnest...and most of all, her joy. Here are some shots of her with one of her favorite horses, Jackson. Jackson is a gentle and patient ooold man -- he is about 32 years of age, quite unusual for horses.

Trying out a different BW conversion here:

Princess L was born one day before C1 + C2 at the same hospital. Her mom and I even visited each other after and before birth (respectively) at the hospital - she definitely had the more difficult trek :-)

Happy birthday sweet princess (pictured here in fusia pink :-)! Here are some shots of noble fun at her lovingly planned 3rd birthday party:

:: three | washington dc children's portrait photographer ::

In the midst of a super busy fall season, C1 & C2 turned three years old. They have grown from cuddly babies to lovable clowns who make us laugh everyday with their silly words and antics. Happy happy birthday, my not-so-little-ones...I feel beyond lucky to have you in my life.

Here are some shots of them enjoying a birthday treat at Sprinkles Cupcakes:

I just love these two. They have been part of our family for almost 5 years. M has been O's friend since they were babies, and Mom and I have been through some interesting motherhood experiences together :-)

Here's to you - wonderfully wonderful and happily happy M + E!

:: performance art | american indian museum washington dc ::

If you have not visited the National Museum of American Indians, please go. As an architect, I love the thoughtfully designed details and native motifs inside and out. As a photographer, I love how beautifully diffused light bounces off the stone pavers. As for my children? They love running and chasing each other around the expansive forecourt and standing under the rainbows refracted by glass prisms inside the museum.

Don't they look like they are somehow trying to "feel" the colors with their bodies??? Or maybe avant garde little-people mime performers???

Look what one of my little clients did for me! Isn't she the best?! All this without any prompting from Mom! M has been my eldest daughter's friend since she was 4-months-old. I'm so happy to have been able to capture some family moments for her and her family. Previews coming up soon!

:: 3 generations | washington dc family photographer ::

As a child, I felt so lucky to have all four of my grandparents around me while growing up. I looked forward to cozy weekends at Puo's and lazy summers at Ah Ma's. Now that I have children of my own, I wish my grandparents are still alive to see how these little ones are so much like them in so many ways.

This past weekend, I had the privilege of photographing three generations of a close family - The Grand Dame, the Adventurous Mom, the Energetic Older Sister and the Mellow Younger Brother. Thank you G, M, A + L for letting me capture priceless family moments for you!

Little brother does EVERYTHING big sister does - how sweet is that?!

One of my very favorite moments - Mom's earring came loose and A tried to help mom put it back in.
