:: shakin' AND stirred | washington dc children's photographer ::

What are the chances of our nation's capital getting hit with an earthquake AND a hurricane within a week??? Higher than we all thought, apparently! I'm glad the damages were minor and most folks are back to business as usual. Here is C2 looking perplexed and concerned over the events from the past week (not really, just didn't want to blog without adding a photo):

Hoping for an ordinary week without any natural disaster :-)

:: old soul | maryland newborn photographer ::

This little guy, F, decided to enter the world a couple of weeks early - only a couple of days after our session with his mama, baba and beautiful sister, A. When I met him, I was pleasantly surprised by how alert he was and how focused he seemed. His calm, but almost intense looks made me think of an old soul who has been around for ages...

Thank you again, K+T, from the bottom of my heart, for the incredible honor of capturing these important moments for you and your lovely family.

Such an intimate, yet strong image

Love the play of shade and shadow on this one

:: are you hip enough?! | iphone photography ::

I am addicted to the HIPSTAMATIC app for iPhone. When I'm out and about with my kids, I looove taking photos of our outings with this app. It is essentially a whole lot of interchangeable lenses & films (filters) that create AWESOME effects - from grungy hipster vintage to ultra texture monochrome. With cool names like "Roboto Glitter" and "Big Up", this app makes even THIS old timer feel a little hipper and happier :-)

Here are some black and whites that I took on our jaunts to the museums downtown:

Oculus at the American Indian Museum

Love this effect, look at the texture!

In motion!

Again, texture!

Love the glowing light from the clerestory windows at the Natural History Museum.

And then here are some vintage color ones that I just can't get enough of:

O learning to hold her breath under water in the tub :-)

Tweety bird.

Cool dude.

Gigante Koi at the National Arboretum

And to save my sanity and satisfy my obsessive, compulsive need to organize, I made these labels for O's toy boxes:

Toy box label: dress-up

Toy box label: dinos

Toy box label: dolls

:: the girls | washington dc children's photographer ::

Now that O is almost 5 (I still cannot believe it!), she is quite the little camera hog. She has gotten so used to me sticking my big ol' camera in her face that she will actually smile willingly (and genuinely) at the lens. Her sister, C2, on the other hand, is still giving me her silly 2-1/2 year old faces whenever a camera points in her direction. Here are some recent shots of the girls on one of our summer outings:

The camera hog :-)

Silly face or not, those eyes (and eyelashes) are hard to resist!

ALMOST NOT making a face...

One of O's good friends from school, S, is one of the friendliest, most outgoing kids you will ever meet. His abundant energy and effervescent personality draw you in. Maybe that's why he is one of the new young faces of Wilhelmina Models! S's dedicated mom + dad took him up to an open casting call in NYC a couple of months ago, at HIS request, and he ended up snagging one of the coveted contracts. Way to go S!!! Here are some shots of S from our headshot photo session for his comp card:

Super Model!!!

Couldn't you just see him in a cereal commercial or Gap ad?!

:: big sister to be | maryland maternity photographer ::

This little girl, A, is one of my VERY FAVORITE subjects! Not only is she photogenic and a natural in front of the camera, she has a twinkle in her eyes that makes you wonder what is in that smart little head of hers :-) Here she is with her very pregnant Mama (who gave birth to her little brother just a few days later!) and adoring Baba. Thank you K + T for inviting me into your home & letting me photograph your soon-to-be-one-more family! (More to come later of newborn baby brother...stay tuned!)

Resting on the Bump

Isn't this the quitessential childhood image?!

One of my favorite family shots! I love how the parents are looking at her lovingly in the background.

:: brotherly love | washington dc family photographer ::

Earlier in the summer, I was asked by a friend to photograph her two handsome boys, L+M. L is the older, wiser brother and M is the younger, outgoing firecracker :-) Here are some shots from our fun shoot at the gorgeous grounds of Dumbarton Oaks. Thanks, D, for letting me spend time with you guys!

More preview of the twins...

Look at the twinkle in her eyes!

And her brother too!

Having fun with mom and dad - who by the way were so great at keeping the children engaged and interested :-)
