Finally!!! We have s-s-snow! While it didn't stick around for long, we made some nice snowballs with the help of snowball makers from LLBean -- they know their snow up there in Maine :-)

My daughter, O, currently attends a Mandarin-immersion school. We are so glad to be a part of this wonderful school & community. As parents, we are asked to volunteer our time to the school. Since I'm one of the very few parents who is fluent in Mandarin Chinese, I volunteered my time as a mystery reader for some of the classes. It still amazes me how 6-year-olds, with no background in Chinese could converse with me without an accent. More amazingly, they are able to read at least 100+ characters! The young mind is such a marvelous thing.

I'm sure you've noticed that I am an iPhonography addict. There's something intriguing about making art out of a snapshot. Shoot, manipulate (I use Camera+ app exclusively) and upload. Instant art. To document my photographic journey with my iPhone, I printed iPhone photos on textured card stock, trimmed them to size & Washi-taped them to the wall in our faux mud room. Oh how I wish for a real mud room one day. Another obsession for another day...

Fresh sunfish poké at the Mitsitam native food café, National Museum of American Indians. Such a wonderful departure from the usual museum fare.

Remember when you were little and your grandmother didn't allow little children with potentially grubby hands near her living room furniture...even though it was all covered in 1"-thick clear plastic slipcover??? Well, I'm not as strict with my children, but I do have a no-marker-or-pen-in-the-living-room policy. Once in a while though, somebody slips through my watchful eyes and leaves evidence behind. Purple glitter marker on neon green sticky note. Brilliant.

To most, the hearth is the symbolic center of the home, the place where the family gathers and shares. For us, our hearth is the dining room. It's not only where we share meals, it's where our children create beautiful works of art; it's where they practice their writing; it's where Daddy tells make-belief stories to coax the children into finishing their dinner. Under this light, we are a family.

I found this photo in my "to be filed" folder. Better late than never, I say. It was a great shaded resting place on a hot, hot Manhattan day...playing in the concrete jungle gym.

This is my fave junkyard dog in Brooklyn. Ok, so he's not really a junkyard dog, but he looks the part, no? In reality, he's a sweet, sweet Bull Mastiff named Blue who is not a big fan of thunderstorms. Otherwise, he loves snoozing not-so-quietly on his personal settee.

This kid can be quite a handful. He is a clown through and through. But he's also quite charming in a way that disarms you when you least expect it.

This might be a cliche and totally embarrassing (for him!), but isn't my husband dreamy?!

While I am a recovering architect, I still have a sweet spot for the built environment. On our last trip to NYC, my children were enamored by the skyscrapers. These are real skyscrapers, not the topless, bottomless office buildings that we have in Washington -- some of which I am unfortunately guilty of designing in a former life.

Here's O strolling out of Central Park towards the Time Warner Building at Columbus Circle.

This was taken from the inside of a teepee at the National Museum of the American Indians. Not a bad contemplation space...look at the view.

Have you met the {NOSEPRINTS} in my life?! They are a pair of showdog drop-outs with more than their share of attitude and mischief...

There's a beautiful birch tree down the street from our house that the {Noseprints} and I love to visit during our mid-day walk. Its peeling bark reminds of me of the constant process of regeneration and in a way, hope.

Taking a break from working on the computer to watch "Lost." I'm on Season Five, but still feel as lost as ever...how does anyone come up with this?!
